Evelyn J. Graffis, 91 of Wakarusa, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born February 12, 1929 in Wakarusa to Manford and Ethel (Enders) Davidhizar. Evelyn married Harry Graffis and he preceded her in death on June 2, 1975.
Surviving is a granddaughter Jinny (Matt) Otolski of South Bend, great-grandson Maaron Otolski, step-daughter Diane Haskins-Graffis of Elkhart, 1st cousins Ronald Davidhizar of Goshen, Dr. Lavern Davidhizar of Alaska, Roberta (Blair) Rexroth of Florida, Enos (Connie) Davidhizar of Goshen, Eleanor (David) Shoup of South Bend, James (Shirley) Davidhizar of Texas and Nancy (Donald) Parcell of Wakarusa.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, Son Kendall Davidhizar and sisters Karen Riley and Phyllis Truex.
Evelyn owned and operated a RV company is Elkhart with her husband Harry and later managed a stationary shop in Colorado. She also volunteered at Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center and was part of the Soroptimist Society both in Colorado Springs. When living in Colorado she sponsored cadets from the Air Force Academy that gave them a home away from home. Evelyn was a member of Wakarusa United Methodist Church. She was always eager to have a conversation and loved to play Bingo.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm. Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St. Wakarusa, IN 46573. COVID-19 protocols will be in place, for health and safety, masks are required per Elkhart County Mandate. A private family service will be livestreamed at 1 p.m. Wednesday through the funeral home website, www.rrefh.com. Go to Evelyn's tribute page and click on photos and videos. The stream will start 5 minutes before the service if anyone wants to watch live and will remain on the website after. Pastor Greg Way and Pastor Ed Geleske will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
