Evelyn was born September 30, 1924 in East Chicago, Indiana to Walter and Antonette (Kwapicz) Wasowicz. In 1946, Evelyn graduated from St. Catherine Hospital's cadet nursing program, where her long love of caregiving began. A proud nurse, Evelyn worked until she was 87, spending the last 30 years of her career with the Intercare Health System. During her career, she was instrumental in founding the migrant healthcare program, even teaching herself Spanish in order to care for field workers during the harvest months. There was nothing Evelyn enjoyed more than caring for people, especially her family. She truly was the most giving person. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Marie (James) Scheetz, Jerome (Joanna) Bajo, and Robert (Sharolyn) Bajo, 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bajo, her siblings, Marion Winters and Irene Pernal, and her parents.
