resident from San Benito, TX, gained his angel wings on Wednesday January 27, 2021 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. Evan was born on November 19, 1966 to Eugenio Cantu Jr. and Eulalia Castillo in Brownsville, Tx. He attended Homer Hanna High School Class of 1986, where he met many lifelong friends. He was part of the Eagles Marching Band and enjoyed playing the drums. Evan worked for BISD for 5 years. He was a hardworking man, who loved the camaraderie. Evan was a band booster member for Veterans Memorial High School, when 3 of his children were in the band. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Maricela Gamez of 25 years and were blessed with 5 children. He enjoyed going to the beach and planning annual family vacations. He was also a problem-solver who often took on projects around the house to improve a better life for his family. He loved living in the moment and making others laugh. Evan's inspiration and motivation in life is his family. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all those that knew him. Evan is preceded in death by his mother, Eulalia Castillo Barrera and his brother, Edward Lee Cantu. Evan was survived by his father, Eugenio Cantu Jr. (Elisabel Cantu), his wife, Maricela Gamez, his children, Evan Andrew Cantu Jr., Eugenio Alexander Cantu, Abigail Blanca Andrea Cantu, Edric Adrian Cantu, and April Valerie Camila Cantu, his siblings, Sylvia Cantu, Suzana Cantu, Yolanda A. Gonzalez, Eugene Cantu III, and Daniel Cantu; his grandchild, Lily Ayleen Cantu; his nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 11 am to 6 pm with a rosary at 5 pm on March 5, 2021 at the Delta Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 9 am on March 6, 2021 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Burial will follow at Buena Vista Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Delta Funeral Directors, family owned and operated, 956-542-2222.
