Senior partner Bedminster law firm, former Long Hill Twp. judge Eugene M. Purcell, 84, Attorney and former Judge in New Jersey, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at his home in Bluffton, SC. Mr. Purcell was born on October 25, 1937, in Newark, NJ. He was the son of Richard J. and Mable H. Purcell. Mr. Purcell was a 1959 graduate of Fairfield University ( B.B.A. 1959 ) and Fordham Law School ( 1962 L.L.B ). During the period from 1971 until his retirement in 2017, he became co-founder and senior partner of the law firm Purcell, Ries, Shannon, Mulcahy and O'Neil in Bedminster, NJ. He was a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a past President of the Trial Attorney's of New Jersey. Mr. Purcell was appointed municipal court judge in Long Hill Township, Morris County, NJ, in 1980. He was a long time member of Roxiticus Golf Club, where he enjoyed golf with friends and many good times on the 19th hole. He moved to Bluffton 3 years ago and enjoyed playing golf with his wife Diane and friends, while simply enjoying retirement. Mr. Purcell is survived by his wife, Diane ( Hailer ). He was the devoted father of son, Patrick Purcell, daughter, Kimberly Corrigan and step-daughter Dana Pruner. He was the beloved grandfather of Carlie and Michaela Corrigan and Connor and Avery Purcell. A private cremation ceremony was held in Bluffton. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 22, at 11am at St. James Church, 184 S Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ.
