Pittsfield - Eugene J. Komlosi, 95, died peacefully on November 2, 2021 supported by the love of his family. He was born December 10, 1925 in Lorain, OH, son of the late Joseph and Mary Peter Komlosi.
A World War II and Korean Conflict veteran, he served as a Petty Officer 2nd Class with the U.S. Navy and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific and China service medals.
Between periods of military duty, Eugene attended Duke University and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and inducted into the honorary scholastic fraternity Tau Beta Pi. Upon graduation, he was employed by General Electric Company until he retired as Manager of Plant Engineering, Environmental and Facilities Projects. His total service with GE was 38 years.
Over the years, Gene along with his late wife Dolores of 64 years, maintained memberships in the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and the Trustees of Reservations as a trail maintainer and project volunteer. He was an active member and ski patrol volunteer with Mt. Greylock Ski Club. With his wife by his side, Gene loved hiking, biking, camping at the Cape with family and photographing/journaling wildflowers, especially in Canoe Meadows. Gene and Dolores summitted Mt. Washington and many other New England mountains during their retirement years.
He leaves two sons, David J. Komlosi and his wife Susan Geer of La Grande, Oregon and Kevin J. Komlosi and his wife Julie of Vancouver, Washington and five daughters, Jeanne M. McTaggart and her husband Matthew of Hudson, Ohio, Paula L. Chipko and her husband Stephen of Bend, Oregon, Karen A. Strother of Morristown, New Jersey, Beverly J. King and her husband Phillip of Barkhamsted, Connecticut and Cynthia R. Comstock and her husband Ross of Santa Barbara, California. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren Kristen, Meghann, Katie, Matthew, Julia, Michael, Colleen, Katie, John, Shannon, Jenna, Kyle and Ryan and five great grandchildren Lewis, Berry, June, Silas and Evvie. Gene was predeceased by three brothers William, Gilbert, and Julius and a sister Louise Miller.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours at Dery Funeral home are private; please join us for the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 am on Wednesday November 10th at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield, MA. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Mass Audubon through Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
