Eugene Ray Harper, Sr., 90, of Scottsville, KY passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024 at his residence. The Scottsville, KY native was a former employee of General Electric, former co-owner and operator of A. & W. Rootbeer, Hometown Drive-In and the Cedar House and a U. S. Army veteran. He retired in 1999 after owning and operating with his wife, Sherlie, Harper's Restaurant. He was a Kentucky Colonel and Citizens Band Radio Club member known as Night Owl. He was a son of the late Raymond Ray Harper and Pernie Mae Blankenship Harper and husband of the late Sherlie Faye Charlton Harper. He is survived by 3 sons: Eugene Ray "Rusty" Harper, Jr. and wife, Rhonda; Dennis Harper and wife, Sally, and Mike Harper and wife, Laura, all of Scottsville, KY; 3 daughters: Donna Ausbrooks, Adolphus, KY; Barbara Ausbrooks and Lynn Denton and husband, Jimmy, all of Scottsville, KY; 1 sister-in-law: Betty Harper, Adolphus, KY; 25 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson: Jason Lewis Huffine and 1 brother: Randall Harper. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Harper and Bro. Trey Harper officiating and burial in Oak Forest No. 1 Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and 7:00 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at Goad Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kosair Children's Hospital or Hosparus. Donations may be made at Goad Funeral Home.
