Ervil E. McKemy, 88, of Beaver, West Virginia passed peacefully and went to be with his Lord and with his sweetheart, Carol Sue, on January 8, 2023 at Bowers Hospice, Beckley, following a long illness. He was formerly a resident of Kenna, WV but had been residing with his daughter, Debbie, for the last several years following the illness and death of his beloved wife.
Born November 4, 1934, Ervil was the son of the late James Earl and Hessie (Casto) McKemy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Sue (Raines) McKemy, sister, Barbara Lewis and a son-in-law Eddie Lilly.
Ervil was retired from the USPS. He loved spending time in the woods, fishing, and hunting. In the early years, Sundays after church would find the family hiking and hearing about God and Heaven. They recall swinging from grapevines that Ervil would find and cut for the kids, some of them not as sturdy as he thought, but making lots of memories, nonetheless.
His children remember early years attending revivals and camp meetings over Charleston area.
Ervil's passion was to share the Message of the Hour and he was a faithful member and trustee of Spoken Word Tabernacle in Beaver, WV for almost 50 years.
Survivors include his children: daughters, Cindy Lilly of Beaver, Debbie Cadle of Daniels, Becky Vest and husband Ronnie of Ripley; sons, Tim McKemy and wife Sheryl of Leon, Jim McKemy and wife Reba of Kenna, 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert McKemy and wife Noreda of Ripley.
A service to celebrate Ervil's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley with Rev. Ron Lilly officiating. Burial will be in the Fairplain Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
