Ernest Dena Vincent of Auburn, New Hampshire, died on April 15, 2021 at The Arbors of Bedford, Bedford, NH, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born November 6, 1947 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Ernie was the son of the late Mary T. (Lovely) (Vincent) Fairbanks and the late William R. Vincent Sr. of Haverhill. He was the stepson of the late Earl Fairbanks.
Ernie attended St. Joseph Grammar School and was a 1966 graduate of Haverhill High School. He received both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a lifelong member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers professional society. He was the owner of Realtime Devices Inc., a consulting company located in Manchester N.H. He was a member of St. Peter Parish, Auburn, N.H.
Ernie had a passion for sharing his knowledge of science and engineering. While in graduate school he was an instructor in undergraduate courses, and in 1972 he received the award for best graduate instructor in the Electrical Engineering Department. After receiving his master's degree, he entered the work force and also began a twenty-two year tenure teaching evenings at the Lowell Institute School of M.I.T. He enjoyed mentoring young engineers as they began their careers. He also served as a Boy Scout badge counselor in his former town of Windham, NH.
From a young age Ernie was an entrepreneur, securing the largest newspaper route at that time in the city of Haverhill. Since he could not possibly deliver the papers to all his customers, he hired others to deliver parts of his route. One of his favorite sports was candlepin bowling. This was an enthusiasm shared by family members and friends, who would gather once a week to bowl in a league. He was an avid boater and snowmobiler, cruising the lakes and trails of New Hampshire with his wife, Carol, his sons, and friends. He traveled extensively and visited all seven continents. In recent years his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol A. (Thibodeau) Vincent of Auburn, NH; his sons and daughters-in-law: Brian L. Vincent and Alison Kerrigan of Auburn, NH, Mark E. Vincent and Rebecca Karp of Boston, MA, and David W. Vincent and Maxine Lee of Medina, WA.; his grandchildren: Emily, Chelsea, Jane, and Robert Vincent of Medina, WA, Harper Vincent of Auburn, NH, and Samuel Vincent of Boston, MA.; his siblings and their spouses: William Jr. and Sandra Vincent of The Villages, FL, Norma and Ernest Grassey of Cohasset, MA, Elizabeth and Bradley Olson of Plymouth, MA, and Maurice and Jean Vincent of North Hampton, NH; his uncle and close friend John W. (Bill) Cross and his wife Pauline; and his eight nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his nephew Todd Olson, and by his beloved grandmother Matilda Vincent.
There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill, MA, under the direction of Berube-Comeau Funeral Home of Haverhill.
