Celebration of Life service for Ernest Lee Cannon, longtime resident of Conroe, will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., at RiverPointe Baptist Church with the Rev. Heath Powers officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Conroe Funeral Directors. There will be a private Burial for the family at Conroe Memorial Park.
Ernest was born on November 5, 1940, in Texas City, Texas, to Linwood and Mildred Cannon. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, in Conroe, Texas, at the age of 83.
In 1957, Ernest enlisted in the Navy and served as an MR3. He did a tour of duty aboard the U.S.S. Halsey Powell and sailed to places like Japan, China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Hawaii. He trained as a machinist during his tour of duty and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1961.
Ernest married Delia Munoz on May 11, 1962. The two were each other's lifelong companions and friends. They were blessed with their two sons, Jeffery and Stephen.
Ernest worked as a machinist for several companies after leaving the Navy, eventually retiring in 1995 from his longtime job at the Entergy Lewis Creek Station Power Plant in Willis, Texas. He was very proud of his success there as a mechanical maintenance foreman. Throughout his life, he enjoyed his family and the outdoors. He will be remembered by everyone who knew him as an avid hunter and fisherman.
Ernest was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Cannon; and his parents, Linwood and Mildred Cannon.
He is survived by his loving family, wife of 62 years, Delia Cannon; brother, Robert Cannon and wife, Barbara; sons, Jeffery Cannon and wife, Christi, and Stephen Cannon and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Trent Cannon, Elyse Sampson and husband, Bruce, and Paige McCrory; niece, Cathy Ansley and husband, Howard; nephew, Doyle Courtney and wife, Julie; great-nephews, Taylor and Scott McDaniel and Colby Courtney; great-niece, Ashleigh Courtney; many other dear relatives and caring friends also survive.
