Erin Marie McGarvey, 49, of Bloomington passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on October 10, 1970 in Bloomington, Indiana the daughter of Richard L. and Donna Su (Kidwell) McGarvey. Erin was a 1989 graduate of Bloomington South High School and a 1993 graduate from the School of Public & Environmental Affairs at Indiana University with a degree in Health Administration.
Erin worked for IU Health Bloomington Hospital for 25 years as an enrollment consultant.
She was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church in Bloomington, and Habitat for Humanity. Her "FamDamily" meant everything to her. She enjoyed many activities as long as they involved being with family and friends, including traveling, Saturday mornings at the farmers market, euchre, tennis, softball, and golf. She was an advocate for many philanthropic organizations. It is not surprising to those that knew her that the nurses shared her strongest organ to the end was her heart. She was full of love, and was especially proud of her role as daughter, aunt, great aunt, niece, and sister, or just "friend".
Erin is survived by her parents, Richard & Donna McGarvey of Bloomington; her sister, Maura (Kevin) Frazier of Greenwood; her brother, Rick (Jamie) McGarvey of Bloomington; her seven nieces and nephews, Kendall (Andrea) Frazier, Austin Frazier, Allison (Pete Andersen) Frazier, Brice McGarvey, Anne Marie McGarvey, Nathan Williams and Evan Williams; and her great nephew, Matthew Apollo Frazier; and her life-long friends the Schuetz family; and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents and aunt Marlys Ketchum, and uncle Roger Kidwell.
One of Erin's favorite sayings was "We are blessed". She believed that we all have many things to be thankful for on this earth, most importantly each other. She would want all of us to celebrate her life by recalling a moment of joy or happiness that each of us were blessed to have shared with her.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A public celebration of life is being planned on the weekend of her 50th birthday in October with more details to come.
