Eric was born on April 29, 1976, to Richard and Marilyn (Avery) Schrumpf in Niles. He graduated from Galien High School in 1994 and continued his education through SMC. Professionally, Eric started working for the Buchanan Feed Mill in high school. After college, he worked as a John Deere Serviceman through Klug John Deere, and then as a Millwright in LaPorte. Following Millwright, Eric served as a Propane Service Technician through Co-Alliance. His true passion was farming, as he continued the family operation of Schrumpf Family Farms which has operated for over 100 years.
In high school, Eric was a great lineman, wrestler and boy scout. He was very mechanically inclined and could often fix issues just by hearing what was happening. In addition to farming, Eric also enjoyed gardening and canning. He always had unique knowledge to share and maintained a positive mentality with a "gotta get it done" attitude. Eric was a larger-than-life man with an even bigger heart. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends, being the best uncle, and the proudest father.
Eric is survived by his mother, Marilyn Schrumpf; son, Isaac Schrumpf; significant other, Karen Lukkarila; sisters, Susan (Rodney Roberts) Schrumpf, Debbie (Steve Johnson) Schrumpf and Laurie (Jed) Wandland; nephews, Dean Roberts, Michael Wandland; niece, Olivia Wandland; aunts, Doris Schrumpf, Ruth Schrumpf and Sheila (Don) Tillman and uncle, Arnold Tillman. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Schrumpf; aunts, Christine Tillman and Pam Champ and uncle Larry Avery.
