Enes Sacchiero Gaherty passed away on December 15, 2020 at Berkshire Medical Center at the age of 95. Enes was a lifelong resident of Lee, born on June 22, 1925. She was the daughter of Italian immigrants - Eugenio and Maria (Frigo) Sacchiero. The family lived on Prospect St. in Lee. Enes was introduced to the English language at St. Mary's (Elementary) School. She graduated from Lee High School in 1943 and then attended the medical laboratory technical program at Pittsfield General Hospital (PGH). She acquired skills in blood draw and analysis and then worked in the laboratory at PGH for several years. She worked as the primary medical laboratory technician at Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge until her retirement. During her medical career, Enes also provided patient care for many years at Dr. Vohr's office and Suburban Medical Associates in Lee. She also provided volunteer support to the Visiting Nurses Association in Lee and Ventfort Hall in Lenox.
Enes loved to prepare awesome meals for her family. Annually, she would put away many quarts of her "secret" marinara sauce - her proud specialty. No one left her home hungry after a meal and there were always "goody bags" to go. Because of her medical knowledge, anyone in the neighborhood with a medical issue would call on Enes first.
Enes is survived by her husband Joseph after 70 years of marriage. She is also survived by her son Daniel and his wife Liza of Milton Vermont and by her daughter Mary Ann and her husband Harvey Reich of Mendon, Vermont. She is also survived by grandsons Zachariah, Jeremy, and granddaughter Jillian Reich. She is predeceased by her sisters Lydia Barenski and Anne Darbe of Lee.
The family would especially like to thank the staff and community at The Landing at Laurel Lake for their friendship and their loving care of Enes for the past four years.
Enes was a communicant at St. Vincent de Paul in Lenox Dale.
The family will have a private funeral service and burial due to Covid restrictions and concerns. There will be a Remembrance Service and Celebration of Enes' life next summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to Ventfort Hall Restoration Fund in care of Kelly Funeral Home, Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
