Emily "Bunni" E. Ptak passed away peacefully at the Berkshire Medical Center after a short illness, on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on November 26, 1931, she was the daughter of Corey and Emily (Rhodes) Olsen. She attended local schools in Pittsfield. She worked in retail for a local establishment demonstrating garment industry techniques. She then enrolled in a secretarial school in New Jersey where she graduated with honors and utilized these skills in her subsequent positions. She worked for the United Methodist Church as an Administrative Assistant and taught extracurricular classes at the Pittsfield Girls Club while raising a family. She worked for 30+ years at General Electric as an administrative assistant and specialized in Human Relations.
She married Edward Ptak in 1961 and celebrated their 61st anniversary last January. She leaves three daughters, Corinne Hagan and her husband Ron, Pamela Hanna and her husband Scott, and Jennifer Brennan and her husband Tom, a brother, James and his wife Jeannie, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Emily was very active in community organizations. She was a member of P.E.O. for over 50 years, serving as President of her chapter and in positions at state level; she belonged to the D.A.V. Auxiliary, the Civitan club, and joined her husband as a member of five stamp clubs. She was a communicant of the Pilgrim Memorial Church.
Emily painted in oils, pastels, watercolor and on porcelain, did floral arranging in both eastern & western styles, often as gifts for shut-ins, and enjoyed many other hobbies including sewing, gardening, and formal dancing with Votre Soire. Emily and Edward enjoyed travels to China, Russia and Norway.
Funeral Notice:
Calling hours for Emily and her late husband, Edward, who passed away just about 2 weeks prior to she, will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 12 noon to 2pm at the Dwyer-Wellington Funeral Home, 220 East Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201. A future memorial service is being planned. Donations may be made in Emily's name to your favorite charity in care of the Dwyer-Wellington Funeral Home.
