Emilie J. Persinger, age 83, of Brownstown, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by her family.
Emilie was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown, for more than 60 years.
Mrs. Persinger retired from the Brownstown Community School system after many years of service as an instructional aid. She also served on the Brownstown Town Council for several years, and she was a member of the Jackson County Home Economics Club.
Emilie loved spending time with her family, especially attending Cincinnati Reds baseball games and going to Kings Island as a family. She also loved to read.
Born on February 23, 1938, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Herman and Marguerite Melloncamp Alwes, both of whom preceded her in death. On September 1, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, she married Robert W. Persinger and he preceded her in death on September 25, 2003.
Survivors include four sons: Michael W. (Kimberly) Persinger of Highland Village, Texas, Mark A. (Penny) Persinger of Freetown, Matthew W. (Vickie) Persinger of Brownstown, and Monte L. Persinger of Brownstown; one sister, Carol (Charlie) Bell of Seymour; five grandchildren: James (Abby) Persinger, Meredeth (Nathan) Hartgraves, Kathryn Gill, Jonah (Brooke) Persinger, and Madison (Kent) Criminger; eight great-grandchildren: Alexia Persinger, Gavin Persinger, Ethan Paver, Tarani Persinger, Luke Paver, Maggy Gill, Emily Gill, and Ally Gill; one great-great-grandson, Jordyn Parkin; two sisters-in-law, Carol Boyer and Diana (Don) McKinney; brother-in-law, Joseph (Judy) Persinger; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Emilie J. Persinger will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown, with Pastor Jeremy Yeadon officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown.
Interment will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Brownstown.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or St. Peter's Lutheran Daycare.
