Elwood "Woody" Hibberd, formerly of Loudoun County, passed peacefully on to his Heavenly home on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the age of 82.
Born in Alexandria, Virginia he led an "All American" boy childhood in the 50's. Growing up he played sports and loved to ride his bike all over the streets of Alexandria.
He had a short-lived college baseball career and after several jobs he found his passion in law enforcement. He was sworn into Arlington County Police Department on August 15, 1960 where he made lifelong friends and rose to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring after 31 years. While serving his community, he was called to serve his country and gladly did so as an MP in the United States Army.
Upon his return from the military he was introduced, by his mother, to the woman who would walk beside him for over 55 years, Judy Lawson. During this time Woody graduated from American University with his Bachelor's degree while raising a family and working full time.
He was an avid golfer and never missed the opportunity to play whether it was with other LEO's, family, church friends or strangers.
He loved his children and grandchildren and taught them so may lessons. From family meals, church pews, the front porch, by his grill and everywhere in between we never got tired of soaking up his knowledge and wisdom and hearing his infectious laugh!
His loving wife of over 55 years, Judy Hibberd, his children Tracy (David Paugh) and David (Julie Hibberd), his grandchildren, Evan, Trevor, Jordan and Kyle and his family and friends will mourn him here on Earth but we will rejoice and find joy in the love and memories and legacy he has left behind. We will see him once again in God's glorious kingdom!
Family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 W. North St., Charles Town, WV on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. The service for Elwood and Judy Hibberd will begin at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Berryville, VA
