Funeral service for Elvira Martin will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma.
Elvira Martin, 89, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at her home. She was born on November 26, 1934, in Kloestitz, Akkerman, Romania, to Immanuel and Sophia (Wegner) Martin.
During her early years, Elvira's family fled Romania for Germany to escape the advancing Russian forces. It was in Germany where she met Alvin Ross Martin, who was serving in the U.S. Army at the time. They were married on November 24, 1961, in Hessental, Germany. The couple was blessed with two children, Danny and Roland Martin.
In 1964, Elvira and her family moved to the United States, where she embraced her new life with grace and determination. On April 4, 1968, she proudly became a U.S. citizen in Eugene, Oregon.
Elvira excelled as an Army wife and mother, supporting her family with love and dedication. She was known for her exceptional cooking and immaculate housekeeping. Beyond her family, she had a profound love for animals and devoted herself to their welfare. She was actively involved in the Volunteer Animal Protection Society, rescuing and caring for many animals throughout her life.
Elvira's warmth, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be remembered by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire others.
Elvira is survived by her son, Danny Martin and wife Mary of Lawton, Oklahoma and other family members located in Canada and Germany.
Elvira was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Roland Martin, and an infant brother.
Danny Martin, her son, stated that, "Mom was the best mother anyone could ever ask for."
