Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Elsie Margaret Conant passed away on May 14th, 2023, at St. Francis Home Hospice in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin at the age of 89. She was ushered into Heaven peacefully, surrounded by family.
The oldest of five siblings, Elsie was born to Frederick D. Long and Elsie M. Cappiello (Volinsky) in Brooklyn, New York (King County) on March 15, 1934. As a child and teenager, one of Elsie's favorite things to do was take the trips to Coney Island to walk the boardwalk, ride carnival rides and eat fair food. She also very much enjoyed attending "Dish Night" at her local cinema when the "one free to each lady" China and glassware campaigns filled movie theaters.
On March 15, 1958, at the age of 24, Elsie married Roy F. Conant of Beloit, Wisconsin. Together, they had 3 children: Dave, Jennie, and Mary. Elsie worked as a secretary for City of Lake Geneva until roughly 1970 when an injury prevented her from working further. After that, she held the roles of housewife and mother until moving to Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin in 1978 when she also became a business partner to her husband for Roy Conant Plumbing.
Elsie called Land O' Lakes home for over 40 years. She was passionately active in her church, Ely Memorial Church (United Church of Christ), in various roles until she moved closer to her son in Ripon, Wisconsin about 1.5 years ago. Elsie loved Precious Moments figurines (she had quite the collection!), hot chocolate, and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren, often in the form of board games. Some of her grandchildren's fondest memories are from visiting her in Land O' Lakes during the summer. Whether it was eating at Vicky's Hotdogs, spending time at the farmhouse, helping out at the church rummage sale, or bowling at T&M Lanes, Land O' Lakes summers were unforgettable. Elsie will be remembered by all for the love and fun she shared with family and friends.
Elsie is survived by two of her children, Dave Conant (Sue) (Ripon, WI) and Jennie Conant (Thorp, WI); her grandchildren, Megan Conant (Split, Croatia) and Jacob Conant (Milwaukee, WI); her nephew, Fred D. Long (Jennifer) (Beloit, WI); and many other nieces and nephews.
Elsie is predeceased by her husband, Roy Conant; her daughter, Mary Conant; her parents; Frederick Long and Elsie Cappiello; and her siblings, Dorothy Downes, Marie (Edward) Peterson, Frederick Long, and Florence (Clifford) Way.
To honor Elsie's memory, her family is holding a Celebration of Life Service at Ely Memorial Church (4302 County Rd. B) in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 11a.m. They invite anyone who knew her to attend and remember her wonderful life. In lieu of gifts or flowers, please make a donation to the church family she loved so much, Ely Memorial Church, in support of the music program.
