Elsie Mae Reams Abernathy, of Irondale, AL passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022 after an extended illness. Elsie was born January 6, 1943 in Sylacauga, AL to Bessie Mae Darling Reams and Benjamin Dewey Reams. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Thomas S. Abernathy; her father Benjamin Dewey Reams and her mother Bessie Mae Darling Reams; her brother Larry J. Reams. She is survived by her brother Dewey Reams, Jr. (Susan) of Dalton, Georgia and her step-sister Vicky M. Rollins of Sylacauga, Alabama; several brothers/sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of Pineview Baptist Church. A graveside for Elsie will be held Monday, June 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Dale Abrams officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elsie's memory may be made to Irondale Public Library and the Women's Auxiliary, Salvation Army of Birmingham, AL. The family of Mrs. Abernathy wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to Loretta Carter, Elizabeth Mac, Keva Hollingsworth, Wyteka Jones, Mellnita Thomas, Keke Johnson and Nina Murray for their support and assistance.
