Ellsworth "Blackie" Black of 88B Mount Herman Station Road, Northfield, MA passed away on March 2, 2021.
Ezzie was born in Northfield MA on March 4, 1935. He was the son of Kenneth R. and Blanche (Jillson) Black. He attended Northfield Schools and graduated from the Greenfield Vocational School.
Blackie worked as a truck driver for many companies throughout his career and retired from J. P. Noonan. Blackie was one of the best known truck drivers throughout the Northeast. He won an award for safety and having no incidents for over 40+ years.
Ezzie was also a member of the Northfield Fire Department for over 25 years.
In 2004 he purchased a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass. From the time he purchased this car, there wasn't a day that went by that you wouldn't find Blackie out in his yard cleaning and polishing it till it shined. He attended every car show no matter what day of the week or where it was. He received many awards for his car which was his pride and joy. At the shows he made many new friends. Once you met Blackie you never forgot him. He would go out of his way to speak to anyone and just loved talking cars.
His other passion was dancing. He and his wife often went out on Saturday nights and would dance the night away. No matter what event they attended if their was dancing they were the first ones on the floor.
Ellsworth married Lois Clark in 1954 who predeceased him on February 11, 2021. He leaves his four children. Neil and his wife Carol (Terry) of Bernardston. Jeffrey and his wife Eileen of Hyde Park NY. Kris and his wife Lynn of Northfield and Kelly Jeanne Amato and her husband Tony, Jr. of Northfield.
He also leaves behind six beautiful grandchildren Lindsey, Megan, Hannah, Keith, Oliva and Jacob and six great grandchildren. Mason, Maddox, Brooklyn, John Henry, Jr (J.J.), Elaina (Ellie) and our beautiful predeceased angel above Max. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Louis Shatney and Wally Boyd and his brother Leland Black.
Due to covid a graveside service will be held in the spring in West Northfield Cemetery, at a time to be announced.
