Ellen Boykin Lane Haggar, 69, died September 13 after a period of declining health. The daughter of the late Robert P. Lane and Ellen Bell Lane, she was born in North Hampton, MA, and grew up in Rock Hill, SC. After graduating from UNC at Greensboro, she received a master's degree in English from the University of South Carolina and did further graduate work there and at Duke University where she also taught freshman English classes. After teaching for several years at the College of Charleston, she married Sam Haggar and they moved to Pikesville, MD. Upon his death, she returned to Rock Hill where she worked at Comporium and cared for her mother. In 2019 she moved to Hickory. She is survived by her sisters and their husbands, Elizabeth Lane Fuller and John Fuller of Hickory, and Catherine Lane King and Johnny King of Wilson; nephews Robert Fuller, Jack Fuller, Johnston King and wife Caroline; niece Ellen King Minnick and husband Beau Minnick; great nephew Bill Minnick and great niece Madeline King. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 1 at 2:00 PM at the Episcopal Church Of the Ascension in Hickory, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Robert P.
