Elizabeth Mansfield passed away on February 11, 2023. She was 93 years old. Orphaned at a young age, she was raised by the Brown family in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Elizabeth graduated from Bridgewater State Teachers College in 1951 and started working as a physical education teacher for the North Attleborough Public Schools after graduation. She taught swimming at summer camps on Cape Cod during college and her early teaching career, and she continued her love of a swimming well into her 80s as a regular at the Park Terrace Swim Club. Elizabeth also traveled extensively with trips to China, Russia, Egypt, Africa and Greece among her favorites. She was an avid reader and was actively involved with the Richards Memorial Library where she was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees from 1993 - 1999. A member of the Angle Tree Garden Club, she helped compile its history, and explored her fascination with all aspects of history through membership in the North Attleborough Historical Society. She also volunteered as a docent at The John Brown House Museum in Providence, Rhode Island and was especially interested in early American furniture, attending Oxford University one summer to learn more about the decorative arts. Her friends and neighbors in North Attleborough were precious and indispensable to her, enriching her life and enabling her to live independently at home until the day she died. Elizabeth was predeceased by her college roommates and life-long friends, Virginia Edgell and Elizabeth Douthart, and held a special place as an honorary aunt for both their families. Funeral services will be private, and at Elizabeth's request, no memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the North Attleborough Historical Society.
