Elizabeth Powers Davis, age 75, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, the 12th of December 2021, in Houston, Texas.
Libby was born on the 6th of October 1946, to Helen Fowler Powers and Ralph Powers in Fort Worth, Texas. She grew up attending Ridglea Presbyterian Church. After graduating from Arlington Heights High School in 1964, she continued her education at Texas Tech University, where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Elementary Education.
Following college graduation, she began her lifelong career in teaching. She was an educator for 30 years and was proudly named "Teacher of the Year" in 1970. She taught Kindergarten through Twelfth grade, as well as Reading Intervention, Art, and Special Education. Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she was one of fifty Houston teachers selected to teach refugee children from New Orleans that were sheltering in the Astrodome.
One of her fondest memories was when she moved to Vail in the early 1970s and she opened a shop called "Fancy Plants". She made the Christmas wreath for President Gerald Ford's door when he skied there. During this time Libby also acquired a love for the outdoors and Colorado wildlife while diving deeper into her lifelong passion for working on her artwork. She always had art supplies ready to be used at her home, and often her supplies were even with her in her purse so that she could work on her paintings any chance she had.
The beautiful mountains called her back to Vail in 2015, where she taught art at Vail Christian Academy. Through the combination of an unplanned encounter with a fox and her vivid imagination, the story of Fredrica the Fox was created. Libby is now a published children's author. Her book, The Tale of Frederica the Fox, even includes illustrations her own students created and will be a cherished memory enhancing her legacy.
For nearly her entire adult life, Libby was a member of Bethel Church of Houston. Whenever she wasn't teaching, her time was spent worshipping the Lord at Bible Studies, Sunday School, and Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Helen, and sister, Susan Powers Harlan.
She is survived in death by her two children Thomas Davis (Jessica) and Elizabeth Davis Hopkins (Mike) and her grandchildren Liam, Maddox, Tyler and Travis.
The funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 17th of December, at Bethel Church, 825 Bering Drive in Houston.
