Elizabeth "Betty" A Sanborn, 87, passed away on July 26, 2024 at All-American Assisted Living, after a period of declining health with Alzheimer's. She was born on April 29, 1937 in Manchester NH, the daughter of Richard E. and Elsie K. (Machell) Chase.
Although "Betty" was not born in Candia, she considered herself a native since she had lived in Candia most of her Life. She was educated in the Candia school system and was a graduate of Central High School in Manchester.
She married her longtime friend Arthur H Sanborn also of Candia in 1956. Arthur and "Betty" welcomed their only child David in 1958 after moving to the family homestead to take over the family farm. Over the years, "Betty" worked for UNH 4-H Coop Ext, NH Insurance Company, as well as the secretary and treasurer for NH Farm Bureau & Rockingham Co Farm Bureau. Her career spanned numerous fields, but ultimately enjoyed having her own in-home daycare.
"Betty" was very active in the community of Candia; teaching bible school, assisting with town elections, a PTA member, and charter member of the Candia Historical Society. She helped organize the first "Old Home Day" celebration in Candia. She and Arthur served as deacons of the Candia First Baptist Church for several years. She was a former member of the Candia Congregational church. "Betty" was also a former member of the E. Candia Grange No. 302.
Her interest was town history and genealogy. She has compiled several scrapbooks of town information as well as family genealogy. She and Arthur helped re-organize the 1984 Reunion of the "Sanborn Family Association," a genealogical association. She served as a secretary and archivist of the association, and organized a tour of the Sanborns' to England.
She loved gardening, bird watching, and most of all her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. The joy of her life was her only child, son David Sanborn who predeceased her in 2013. After 64 years of marriage her husband, Arthur H Sanborn of Candia predeceased her in 2020. She is survived by her daughter-in-law JoAnn (Proulx) Gula and her husband David of Epsom, NH;2 granddaughters, Krystal (Sanborn) Pfeiffer and her husband J. Grant, of Candia NH and Jessica Sanborn of Brentwood, NH; 3 great grandchildren, Corbyn Kio, Wesley Pfeiffer, and Adalyn Grace Pfeiffer of Candia; and her sister-in-law Ruth Sanborn Fowler and her husband, Dr. Edward Fowler of Candia, NH; Niece, Debra Fowler and her wife, Dee Killion Fowler of Lowell, MA; Nephew, Stephen Fowler and his wife, Beth Fowler of McLean, VA.
A wake will be held in honor of "Betty" on Tuesday, August 6 2024 at Brewitt Funeral Service, 2 Epping St., Raymond, NH from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church of Candia, located on 188 Deerfield Rd, Candia, NH. Burial will follow at Holbrook Cemetery in Candia NH.
