Elizabeth "Betty" Karamol Vokelich, 82, of Petoskey, died May 30, 2020 while at her sister's home in Charlevoix.
Betty was born on August 28, 1937, the daughter of Joseph and Sophia (Francis) Karamol. She attended St. Francis Catholic School in Petoskey. After graduation, Betty attended nursing school at St. Mary's in Grand Rapids. Betty was employed as a nurse on commercial airline flights, which fed her love of travel. She was able to visit Japan, Africa, and all over the United States.
In 1977, she moved to Petoskey and began working primarily in the intensive care unit, specializing in the cardiovascular department. She was extremely skilled and assisted in many heart transplants. She was passionate about her career and made many life long friends through nursing.
She was an avid skier, and enjoyed outdoor activities like camping and fishing. In more recent years, she became involved in her community at the Bridge Street apartments in Petoskey and made many friends there, too. She liked going on the day trips to the casino and playing BINGO.
Betty was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Petoskey.
Betty is survived by her sister, Jane (Terry) Bremmeyr of Charlevoix; her niece Lynn (Scott) Vollmer; nephew, Kyle Bremmeyr; and great nephew, Parker Skeel. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Richard "Dick" Karamol and James "Jimmy" Karamol.
There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to Mass. Father Greg McCallum will officiate.
Friends and family wishing to make a charitable donation in Betty's memory are asked to please consider McLaren Hospice - their care for Betty in her final days was extremely appreciated.
Stone Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
