Elizabeth (Betty) Joanne Otey, age 70, of Leesburg, VA, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022. Betty was born on March 13, 1952, in Towson, MD. In 1955, Betty and her family relocated to Denver, CO, where she grew up, spent much of her young adult life, and gave birth to her two daughters. She moved to Leesburg in 1996 where she remained until her passing. Betty held an impressive career in finance as a government contractor. She enjoyed living on the East Coast and loved the beach, particularly lighthouses. Her interests included spending time with her grand-daughter Libby. Affectionately named 'Gramma,' Betty and Libby baked together, built forts, decorated for holidays, played games, and were constantly laughing. Betty also enjoyed traveling, to include a trip to Great Britain with her daughters, caring for her pets, and learning about history. She relied on her faith in God and prayers to Saint Anthony to guide her through a courageous fight against cancer. Betty had an amazing sense of humor and was always laughing. She was loving and forgiving with a heart of gold. She will be missed deeply by her friends and family who loved her most. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank J. Hefestay, Sr., and Elizabeth A. (Parsons) Hefestay, her sister M. Frances Logsdon, and brother Mark A. Hefestay. Betty is survived by her daughters, Jennifer A. Otey of Denver, CO, and Laura M. Hoover of Jefferson, MD, and Laura's husband Kirk and their daughter Libby. She is also survived by her brother, Frank J. Hefestay, Jr., of Kearneysville, WV. Her family welcomes all to attend the funeral Mass on Friday, July 15, 2022, at St. John Catholic Church in Leesburg, VA, at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be at Union Cemetery in Leesburg and a reception will follow at St. John's reception hall.
