Elida Ann Gibbons, 91, formerly of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021, at Santa Marta Retirement Center in Olathe, Kansas.
Elida was born April 22, 1930, in Trinidad, Colorado to Rudolph and Gertrude Coley DeRouen. She graduated from Trinidad High School, attended Trinidad State Junior College and Colorado University at Boulder before completing her degree at Washburn University, Topeka. In June of 1951, Elida and Albert Joseph "Bud" Lamden, DDS were united in marriage. To this union three children were born, Mark, Lori and Thomas. Mr. Lamden passed away in 1962. Seven years later, Elida and Edward Francis Gibbons were married. He passed away in 2010.
Elida was a long-time member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Parish. She taught second grade at Gage Elementary School and later worked parttime in the admissions office of Washburn University.
Elida was a devout Catholic with unshakable faith. She was a joy to be around, loved family deeply, and had eyes that twinkled with her plentiful laughter and smiles.
Grateful to have shared Elida's life are her son, Mark J. Lamden, ND and spouse, Elizabeth Ordas; her daughter, Lori Lamden Roop; grandchildren, John Avi Roop and Miles Joseph Lamden; great-grandchildren, Rocco Thomas Roop and Indra Annabelle Roop; and her brother, Joseph R. DeRouen.
Elida was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas John Lamden, her brother, Fr. Robert DeRouen, SJ and her sister, Adele Benter.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 14, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church where the rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Elida's son Thomas, memorial contributions are suggested to TARC and Sheltered Living or to Most Pure Heart of Mary Ministry to the Aging and all sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.
