Elesia Evans was born September 26, 1920 in Karnack, Texas to the late Henry Lee and Rosie Bell Adkins. It is with great sorrow we announce Elesia, our beloved matriarch, passed away on February 7, 2022 at the age of 101.
Elesia devoted her life to her family and her faith in God. She was not just a homemaker but was also a full time counselor, nurse, teacher, and referee to all her children and grandchildren. Most days you could find Mrs Evans cooking something delicious, tidying up her home, and caring for her old cats, which she loved dearly. Though she had a heart of gold she also had the gift of telling you the cold hard truth, bluntly but usually quite accurately. Elesia was such a kindred spirit; she kept any card ever sent to her as she would go back and reread them, keeping that memory fresh in her mind. Mrs. Evans was very spiritual and she believed God was first in life. She was a member of Highland Church of Christ, Bunche Church of Christ and Carver Heights Church of Christ throughout her years in Odessa. Elesia has seen six generations be raised from her union with the late Cornelius Evans Sr. in 1940. She is the last cornerstone of her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Lee Adkins, Rosie Bell Adkins, her beloved husband Cornelius Evans Sr., son Henry Lee Evans, and grandchildren Kanitra Evans and Andy Pitman.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters; Ruby Jewel Veal (Billy) of Odessa, Texas, Bobbie Jean Raymond of Baytown, Texas, Ruby May Terry of McCamey, Texas, three sons; Cornelius Evans Jr. (Tonya) of Houston, Texas, Robert Evans (Jenetta) of Midland, Texas, Joe Evans (Surfronia "Sophie") of Odessa, Texas, sister Faralee Adams of Los Angeles, California, brother Will Adkins of Conroe, Texas, 24 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 63 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Avalos-Sanchez & Thomas Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Friday, February 18, 2022 at North Side Church of Christ at 10:00 a.m. with Minister Rodney D. Taylor Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
