Elena Dawn Tolbert passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 26, 2022 at the age of 80 in Auburn, AL.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John H. Tolbert, Jr.; and is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Elena P. Moseley, son-in law, Nelson B. Moseley, II and grandchildren, Nelson B. Moseley, III and Edith P. Moseley and sister, Thelma McLain.
Her sister, Joanne Moxcey, preceded her in death.
Dawn was born in Portland, ME on December 29, 1941 to the late William Edgar Craig and Elena N. Craig. She attended Portland High School and graduated in 1960. During high school, she worked at LaRosa's Market and after high school she worked at Pierce Atwood LLP. She later moved to Arlington, VA where she met her husband while working at The Pentagon and he was stationed nearby in the Army. They were married on February 20, 1965, in Arlington, VA at Clarendon United Methodist Church. After his discharge from the Army, they lived briefly in Presque Isle, ME before settling down in Athens, GA. She worked at the University of Georgia in the President's Office in Old College and the Statistics Department as an office manager for 30 years before retiring. Throughout her life, she enjoyed reading, nature, hiking with friends, sewing/crafts, and traveling. She also enjoy going to church and visiting with her Sunday school classmates at Prince Avenue Baptist Church.
There will be a graveside service at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery Sunday July 31, 2022 at 2:30 PM with Reverend Doug Nix officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (ALZ.org) or the American Cancer Society.
