Eleanor J. Shoup, formerly of South Bend, Indiana passed away in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Dec 31, 2021. She was born in Madison Township in St Joseph County on March 31, 1931 to Otis and Mary (Enders) Davidhizar. She was united in marriage to Owen E. Shoup on May 23, 1954 at Holdeman Mennonite Church in Wakarusa, IN. They had two sons, Steven and Michael. Michael died shortly after birth. Steven (Cindy) have two children, David (Abby) Shoup with a son Liam of Des Moines, Iowa, and Rosanna (Derrick) Bailey with daughter, Jane of Helena, Montana. Eleanor is survived by her brother and his wife James (Shirley) Davidhizar of Huntsville, Texas as well as brother-in-law, Don Parcell of Wakarusa,lN
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Imogene Davidhizar and Nancy Parcell as well as her husband, Owen Shoup and infant son, Michael Shoup.
She enjoyed her work as an elementary school teacher for over 40 years for Penn-Harris-Madison school district and was a member of the retired teachers association.
She was a member of Kern Road Mennonite Church and loved church music. She was a pianist and organist and enjoyed sharing her love for music with her children and grandchildren. Her Christian faith was very important to her and she was fond of saying "You can have the whole world?just give me Jesus!"
Until moving to Iowa to live with her son, she enjoyed living in the Southfield community and appreciated so much her wonderful neighbors who looked out for her, especially during the pandemic. Steven was so thankful for these caring neighbors.
A private graveside service will be planned. Due to Covid-19, Eleanor did not want a funeral or visitation. Memorials may be made to music department of Kern Road Mennonite Church, 18211 Kern Rd, South Bend, Indiana 46614.
