Eleanor Frances Hare Grant, 91, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving children and her precious caregiver Mary Kimes. A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late George and Mamie Hare.
Raised in a humble home on the farm, Mrs. Grant learned to work hard and to value the small things in life. She attended Nahunta High School, graduating in 1952. After high school, she began working at Belk. On Aug 30, 1953, she married Elvin Grant, the love of her life. Her husband joined the US Army and together they traveled the world while raising four crazy children. After retirement, they settled in Elizabeth City, NC until 2005. Then to be closer to family, Elvin and Eleanor moved to Goldsboro, NC.
She was an amazing mother and taught her children about faith and the importance of family. Nothing meant more to her than family. She loved all her nieces and nephews and their families, and her many cousins. Mrs. Grant had a gift of shining her light through loving others, especially children.
During this special time, her family has laughed and cried while sharing wonderful stories and memories. Some words to best describe Mrs. Grant (affectionately known as Nama and Mimi) include Wise, Strong, Dedicated, Funny, Feisty, and a little Sassy. Her family prays that they will always honor her memory.
Eleanor Grant is survived by her daughter Angela Neal (Steve) of Gastonia, NC; daughter Donna Grant of Raleigh, NC; son Terry A. Grant and Marilue Cook of Goldsboro, NC; and daughter Linda Larimore (Greg) of Goldsboro, NC; three grandchildren Kristin Winchester (Kyle), Kimberly Neal and Daniel Larimore; and two great-grandchildren Anna Gray and Wright Winchester. She is also survived by her special sweet friend Joann Wellons.
Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her husband in 2010 and her grandchildren Matthew and Ashley Larimore.
The family would also like to recognize and thank Clara Farmer and Gentiva Hospice for caring for their mother.
