Eleanor Marguerite Trowbridge Guess, 99, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024 at home in Denmark, SC.
Born in Blackville, SC, at her grandparent's home and raised in Aiken, Eleanor was the daughter of Frank Rowland Trowbridge and Nellie Rebecca Ray Trowbridge. She was educated in Aiken public schools and graduated from Aiken High School in 1942.
Eleanor married Thomas Connor Guess in 1947 and moved to Denmark, joining Bethel Park Methodist Church, as a beautiful soprano in the choir.
Easily becoming involved in the community, Eleanor served as President to the Palmetto Garden Club (4 years), Regent of the Charles Pinckney Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (12 years). She sang with the Bamberg Chorale (15 years). She was Troop Leader of the Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and active with the Denmark Country Club.
She enjoyed baking her famous 9 layer cakes, golf, travelling, singing, painting and flower arranging.
Eleanor held offices in the United Methodist Women and she was a friend to all.
During World War II, she worked with the Red Cross, rolling bandages, playing ping pong with the troops and singing around the piano.
Eleanor was also a poll watcher active in civic work with the Board of Appeals.
She is survived by 3 children, Mary Eleanor Guess, Thomas Connor Guess, Jr. (Amelia), Alan Daniel Guess (Kathy), 4 grandchildren, Connor (Sydney), Trey, Paul, Savanna (Hunter) and 3 great grandchildren Wrenley, Sadie and Georgia.
Eleanor's generous, kind nature plus her brave, positive and funny approach to life will be her lasting legacy for all who knew and loved her.
Services were held on 9/1/2024.
