Eldon Eugene (Gene) Collins died on June 16, at the age of 91. Born January 31, 1931 in San Juan, Texas, son of George A. Collins and Nellie Mae Wooley Collins Baumgart.
He married Imogene Ingram Collins on May 7, 1950. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, handyman work, telling jokes and helping others any way he could. He was a beloved husband, a loving father and great friend to everyone he met. He was well known in Meadowlakes as the "handyman" for over 30 years.
Prior to moving to Meadowlakes, he was a Seaman 1? Class in the U.S. Navy on the USS Mansfield destroyer in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1950. He then moved with his wife to run his uncle's dairy farm for approximately 2 years. He was employed by Halliburton in 1952. His duties included training and safety. He retired in 1986 after 34 years of employment. After retiring they moved to Meadowlakes.
He was a people person, loved to tell jokes (even to strangers) and was always the life of the party. He would tell people he had a PHD (piled higher and deeper). He loved country music and enjoyed dancing whenever possible. He loved to fish. When they lived in Corpus Christi he would take Imogene and the family fishing with him.
He is survived by, as he called her, his daughter (caretaker), Jeanine Osborne of Meadowlakes and family Byron, Jaime & Bella Osborne, Tyler, Jessica, Trista, Ty Coffey & Emma Hamm, son-in-law, DuWayne Hastings and wife Joan of Killeen, granddaughter Shannon Hastings, four great-grandchildren, sister-?in- law Nancy Baumgart, stepbrother Charles Baumgart and wife Phillis, half- brother Buster (Calvin Jerry) Collins and wife Ellen, half-sister Shirley Alsup, many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Collins was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, daughter Peggy Mae Hastings, his wife of 62 years Imogene Collins, sibling Vernon Collins, stepbrothers Richard Baumgart and Ray Baumgart, half? sisters Neva Jane Casselman and Melba June Matthews.
Visitation June 23, 2022, 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls. Funeral Service June 24, 2022, 10:00 am at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Rev. Ellen Ely officiating. Interment at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
