Elaine Winsett Siegel, 88, of Rome, Georgia passed away on Wednesday morning, May 18th, at a local healthcare facility. Mrs. Siegel was born December 29th, 1933 in Rhea County, Tennessee, daughter of the late Elvin Winsett and the late Lillian Hicks Winsett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Solomon Siegel, Jr., to whom she was married on August 4th, 1952.
Mrs. Siegel moved to Rome in 1953 and graduated from Berry College in 1970 with a degree in Nursing. She worked as an RN at Floyd Hospital for over twenty years, primarily in the maternity ward as the postpartum charge nurse. She was a longtime member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church and in earlier years was active in both the Junior Women's Club and Lavender View Garden Club. Mrs. Siegel was an avid Georgia football fan and loved traveling to both home and away games with her husband, Sol.
She is survived by three daughters: Mary Holcomb (Jim) of Rome, Georgia, Dr. Marsha Siegel Carpenter (Kit) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Marilyn Anderson (George) of Rome. Three grandchildren: Charlotte McClung (Bradley) of Oxford, Georgia, David Holcomb (Jordan) of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Jennifer Baker (Bryan King) of Birmingham, Alabama. Several granddogs, great-granddogs, and great grandcats also survive.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the many nurses and caretakers at Riverwood Assisted Living, Rome Rehab & Health, Seven Hills Place, and Compassus Hospice & Palliative Care for their care and compassion over the last several months.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be a private graveside service on Friday, May 20th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter.
