Elaine Bartholomew Scarborough

Elaine Bartholomew Scarborough, 73, of Polkton, NC, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2025. She was born on July 16, 1952, in Raleigh, NC to the late Thomas Alfred Bartholomew and Ethel McLawhorn Bartholomew. Elaine was a 1970 graduate of Millbrook HS and a 1974 graduate of Meredith College. She earned her Master of Education from UNC at Chapel Hill in 1978. She poured her gifts into her passion for education for more than 40 years as a teacher, principal, consultant and Executive Director of the Anson County Partnership for Children for 20 years. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Alfred Bartholomew and Ethel McLawhorn Bartholomew. She is survived by her husband, Donald Pope Scarborough; their children, Whitney Thomas Scarborough Taylor (Jeremy), and Donald Logan Scarborough (Ashley); her beloved grandchildren: Holden Taylor, Merritt Taylor, Rivers Scarborough, and Craven Scarborough; her sister, Gail Kiker of Pinehurst; her brother, Tom Bartholomew (Ruth) of Raleigh; and her brother-in-law, Al Scarborough (Mickey); and nieces and nephews.
