Elaine "Lainey" Johnson Nelson was born on August 3, 1938, and passed peacefully on August 21, 2021 at Advanced Health Care in Clearwater, Florida. She was born and raised in Norwood, MA and graduated from high school there. She received training in Medical Technology at Boston's Children's Hospital. She became a medical technologist and worked at Boston's Children's Hospital, Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA and retired from Southwood Hospital in Norfolk, MA.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl E. Nelson and her parents Edgar and Gladys Johnson and her siblings, Marilyn Lund, Barbara Pellowe and Robert Johnson. She is survived by her loving children, Karen Nelson of Franklin, MA, Erik Nelson of Auburn, MA and Linda Murphy and husband, Matthew, of Canterbury, NH. She was a proud grandmother of Emma Nelson, Alyssa Murphy and Noel Murphy. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces and their children.
She lived in Wrentham, Massachusetts for many years before moving to St. Petersburg, Florida. She participated in many volunteer programs such as being a reading teacher to illiterate prisoners and immigrants, doing pastoral care at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, assisting at Daystar program for the less fortunate, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Lutheran Church of the Cross in St. Petersburg, FL. She also visited shut-ins at Americana Cove where she was living.
There will be a service for her at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 4545 Chancellor St. NE, St. Petersburg, Florida on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 1pm. All are welcome to attend. The service will also be live streamed on You Tube and the church's Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Daystar Life Center 1055 28th St S, St. Petersburg, Florida 33712.
