Eileen F. (Duran) Benson, 72, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
Born in Boston, Mass on March 7, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Annette (Hicks) Duran. The youngest of 10 children, she was raised in South Boston and a graduate of Cardinal Cushing Central High School. While raising her four children, Eileen earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Bridgewater State University. As a teacher for many years in the City of Brockton, both in Catholic and public schools, Eileen was tough, but fair, caring very deeply for her students and their families.
Eileen and her husband Leo enjoyed a wonderful retirement together living in Murrells Inlet, SC. She loved walking along the marsh walk, going to the beach, water aerobics, reading, attending mass, playing cards with her sisters, doing puzzles, watching sports, and traveling the world. She loved spending time with family and friends, but most of all her beloved grandchildren: Amelia, Logan and Hanley.
Eileen was preceded in death by her sisters Margaret "Peggy" Bagtaz and Ruth Duran, as well as her brothers Jimmy, Jay, John and Daniel Duran. She is survived by her sisters Marylou Yanovich of MA, Annette Grealish of NC, and her brother David Duran of OK. She was Auntie Eileen to numerous nieces and nephews who she shared many fun memories and loved very much.
She is survived by her best friend and the love of her life, her husband Leo. They were looking forward to celebrating their 52nd anniversary on June 8th of this year. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Kelly Benson of Canton, MA, Joseph Benson and his wife Laurie of the Netherlands, Kevin Benson and his wife Ashlye of Holyoke, MA, Lisa Benson and her husband Maurizio Rapisarda of Quincy, MA.
A celebration of Eileen's life will be held this summer in Massachusetts.
