Eileen Milstead Kerr, 89, of Carthage, TX, died Monday morning, April 26, 2021. Eileen was born to Adam and Lottie Hassell Sullivan on Sept. 2, 1931, in San Antonio, TX. Eileen was raised a Army 'brat', living in California, Kansas, and Texas. But she always returned to her East Texas roots. Her child raising and working years were spent in Nacogdoches. She was employed at the Stephen F. Austin Student Center, City of Nacogdoches, and Moore Business Forms, where she was able to use her artist design skills. One of my favorites was the S.F.A. Student Center. I (Suzie) was in High School and when mom got tied up, she'd throw her keys to one of her college student employees to come get me. Oh the jealousy of my friends as I was escorted home by a good looking college guy! She enjoyed all types of crafts, art, and remodeling. Her husband Harry, never knew what he would find when he returned home. One day she had removed the wall in the dining room. It was just too small and needed the open concept look with the kitchen and living area! All our family homes are decorated with her paintings and crafts. She was the fun aunt to her many nieces and nephews, always up for an adventure and enjoyed the summer visits. She loved a full house with friends and family. All her children's friends were welcome anytime, whether her kids were there or not. Her beloved grandchildren have many wonderful Gigi stories and still refer to her as "feisty". She never met at stranger and put everyone at ease as soon as she opened her mouth. She enjoyed many years of service and fun as a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She retained many close friends even after leaving Nacogdoches to live in Lufkin. Her final years were spent in Carthage where her son and mother lived. She spent many happy Tuesday afternoons playing 42 for Adult Seniors at the First Baptist Church which was a really fun group.
Special thanks for Nan Powell for the many weekly hairdos that were always perfect, to Wendy Jernigan for her loving care of Mom, and also to Calli, Andrea, and Briarcliff Nursing Home for their comfort to Mom and to me, in her last few hours.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Billie Smith and Kathleen Myers; and husband, Harry Kerr.
Eileen is survived by her son, Jim Milstead and wife Brenda; daughter, Suzie Milstead Mayes and husband David; grandchildren, Chad Milstead and wife Sandya, Heather Peterson and husband Scott, Heidi Bransom and husband Jonathon, and Holly Uhrie and husband Michael; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Johnny Sullivan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Footprints in the Sand Memorial in Carthage or to Christ Episcopal School, 1428 N Mound St., Nacogdoches, TX 75961
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are by Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
