Edwin R. "Ed" Weaver, age 82 of rural Darlington, WI passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born October 1, 1941 in Darlington the son of Robert and Mary (Shirley) Weaver. Ed lived in the Darlington and Shullsburg, WI area his entire life and graduated from Darlington High School in 1960. Shortly after, he was united in marriage to his best friend, Mary Lou Farrey on December 3, 1960 at Benton Primitive Methodist Church in Benton. After their marriage, he and Mary Lou moved to Cuba City, WI where they started their family. Together they farmed around the Lafayette County area until settling on their farm on Dobbs Road in Lamont Township.
Ed is survived by his sons: Ed Weaver Jr. of Blanchardville, WI, Gregg (Jan) Weaver of Verona, WI, Jim (Lori) Weaver of Deer Trail, CO, Tom (Charmaine) Weaver of Lamont, Randy (Laura) Weaver of Fairmont, NE, Dan (Deb) Weaver of Green Bay, WI, Doug (Renee) Weaver of Darlington, John (Jamie) Weaver of Friesland, WI, and Andrew (Janelle) Weaver of Strausburg, CO; 22 grandchildren; many treasured great-grandchildren; one brother: William (Gloria) Weaver of Pacific, MO; and his special friends Alissa Goebel and her son Roman. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Mary Lou in 2021.
Ed was a member of First Baptist Church in Darlington. He also spent time as a 4-H Leader, a member of the Pecatonica Valley Antique Club, delivered meals on wheels, assisted at the Lamont Township Recycling Center, and was always willing to transport anyone who needed a ride to their medical appointments. Ed loved to spend time outside in his garden proudly growing things he would later give away to others. He had a gift to gab and could make a stranger into a friend within seconds. In their younger years, Ed and Mary Lou loved to show off their square-dancing skills with the Platteville Pistols and Petticoats and the Stockton Twirlaways.
Ed was exceptionally proud of his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to attend his grandchildren's sporting and other extracurricular activities throughout the years, making sure they all knew how proud of them he was.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church (15691 County Road K, Darlington) with Rev. Nick J. McElrath officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church.
