Edwin "Ed" C. Vadset, Jr., 83, passed away Sunday, July 25th of age-related complications with his family by his side.
Ed was born in Yakima and was raised in Seattle. He attended Lincoln High School where he played Baseball and Basketball; leading the Basketball team his Senior year to win the State tournament. (The team they beat happened to be Anacortes High). Ed continued to play Basketball on a scholarship for Western Washington University while pursuing his Undergraduate degree in Education. He met his bride, Sandi Rhebeck while at WWU and they moved to Anacortes in 1961 to begin Ed's 33-year career of teaching and later, coaching.
His love of basketball led him to become a referee for many years as well as the assigning league Secretary for Skagit, Whatcom and Island counties.
Always a fisherman at heart, Ed purchased the Sandi L, a Charter boat that he skippered out of Westport for many years during the summer months.
Ed's retirement years were almost as long as his working career. This enabled him to have many adventures with Sandi, spend time with his daughters Cheryl& Julie and their husbands, as well as get to share his love of the outdoors fishing & motorcycle riding with his now adult grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife Sandi; daughters Cheryl O'Mera (Kelly), Julie Huber (Ron); brother Bryon Vadset (Ricki), sister Carolyn Davis (Tom) and his grandchildren, Sean O'Mera (Stephanie), Ryan O'Mera, Megan O'Mera, Hayden Huber (Hannah) and Parker Huber.
Per Ed's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers or donations, please share a Mr. Vadset memory with your friends and family.
