Edwin Marshall Thomasson was welcomed home by the heavenly hosts March 6, 2020. He was 97. Born in the Antioch community of Polk County November 19, 1924, the youngest of 7 children, to Joseph Marshall Thomasson and Annie Odessa (Smith); he moved to Bartow County in 1938. Ed graduated Cassville High in 1941. There, he met his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Matthews. They married April 16, 1946. He worked as a Roving Man at Pepperell in Lindale until he began active duty as a Flight Officer/Bombardier in the US Army Air Corps from April 1943 until October 1945. After his service, he found employment as a teacher in the CCC. His classroom was in Carl Boyd American Legion Post 42. After studying at The Draughon School of Commerce in Atlanta, Ed began his 40-year career as a Certified Premium Auditor and a CPCU, with The Hartford, The Traveler's and Phoenix of Hartford Insurance Cos. Ed's career took him from Atl. to Miami, Greensboro (NC), Nashville, Birmingham, and Palm Beach Gardens (FL). Ed and Eleanor retired to Cartersville in 1992. Together, they were active members of the First Presbyterian Church and both the Cassville and the Etowah Valley Historical Societies. Ed enjoyed gathering with his friends in the Retired Men's Group, Lion's Club, and Am. Legion Post 42. Ed's greatest joy was to be out in the fresh air, sharing hours of laughs (and groans), well into his 90's, with his dear friends in the NW Ga. Sr. Golf Assoc. He is survived by sons, Anthony and Peter, grandsons, Drew Seals and Sean Thomasson, and a wonderful and loving family of nephews, nieces and cousins. His remains were interred with Military Honors in the Cassville Cemetery March 19th.
