Edward Zelek, 97, formerly of Housatonic died Monday July 26, 2021 at Atria Marland Place in Andover MA. Edward was born in Radlna Poland on February 9, 1924, son of Francis and Louise (Skorka) Zelek. During World War II Edward spent five years in a German Labor Camp. Edward moved to Housatonic in 1950 and became a citizen in 1955. He worked on tobacco farms in CT, Monument Mills as a weaver and then for 39 years as a mill wright at Rising Paper Mill, retiring in 1989. Edward was a caretaker for the church and member of the choir of the former All Saint's Church in Housatonic. He enjoyed Polish Picnics, polkas and singing. Edward's wife Stacia (Krzynowek) Zelek whom he married on May 31, 1952 in All Saint's Church predeceased him on May 14, 2014. Edward is survived by daughter, Mary Gold of Andover, one brother, Zigmund Zelek of Poland, one sister, Genevieve of Poland and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Stacia, Edward was predeceased by sister, Josephine and brother John.
Funeral Services for Edward Zelek will be held on Friday July 30 at 10:00 AM with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Housatonic with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Bridget's Cemetery in Housatonic. Family will receive friends on Friday July 30 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME 33 South Street Great Barrington MA 01230.
