He was preceded in death by his parents along with his sister Virginia. He will be interred at the All Souls cemetery in Chardon, Ohio.
Mr. Stewart was born in Bay Village, Ohio in 1931 of Edward M. and Marion (Kurtz) Stewart. He attended Ohio University for two years before being drafted into the US Marine Corps and served his country in Korea during the Korean War in the First Marine Division.
Mr. Stewart spent his career in the metalworking industry and retired from Cogsdill Tool Products as a Regional Manager in 1995. He worked on countless interesting projects during his career from helping debug tooling to produce submarine missile silos to firearms manufacturing. The largest part of his time was devoted to servicing the "big three" automotive manufacturing plants and their primary suppliers.
Mr. Stewart was an avid lifelong boater who trailered his beloved Cobalt "Sea Ya II" from Lake Erie to Boothbay Harbor, Maine to the Marathon Keys in Florida. He loved fishing for whatever was biting from Lake Erie Walleye to Striped Bass on Cape Cod. He became a certified scuba diver at the age of 67 and enjoyed going on diving trips with his two sons. Winter time was spent riding his snowmobile with friends and family; often on the roads of Chardon and much of Geauga County. Mr. Stewart rekindled an interest in RC aircraft in later years and was a member of two different RC clubs in Anderson. He was passionate gun enthusiast who built several muzzle loading rifles and pistols. Mr. Stewart was a lifetime member of the NRA.
He traveled the world visiting with his wife Agnes. They became member of the Friendship Force, a non-profit cultural organization focused on promoting understanding, cultural education and citizen diplomacy through homestay Journeys and personal friendships.
He was well known for his sense of humor, and relished telling the same jokes to friends and family over and over through the years. He retold them so frequently over Bloody Mary's that numbers were eventually assigned to each joke. Everyone loved jokes #21, #42, as well as good old reliable #7. #13 was not to be shared in mixed company. No one laughed harder at his jokes than he did. We will miss you at the next holiday dinner asking for the 100th time if he could "Please have a little bit of butter up my end?".
Funeral services will be held at the McDougald Funeral Home at 2211 North Main St. in Anderson SC. Calling hours will be on Sunday, August 7th from 1:00 -3:00 pm with a chapel service to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Doctors Without Borders. Mr. Stewart will be buried at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio on Saturday August 13, 2022 at 1:00 pm.
A Marines Prayer
Almighty God, whose command is over all and whose love never fails,
make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to
my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and
helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones and
Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family. Give me the will to do
the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor
and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily
performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties
my country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Make me
considerate of those committed to my leadership. Help me to wear my
uniform with dignity and let it remind me daily of the traditions, which
I must uphold. If I am inclined to doubt, steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try
again. Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I
may understand the answer to my prayer. Amen.
