Edward (Sam) Martula 76, of Hadley, died December 27, 2020 surrounded by family. Edward was born June 12, 1944 to Michael and Jennie (Zalot) Martula. Predeceased by his younger brother Peter Martula who passed away on June 6, 2020.
Edward was a graduate of Hopkins Academy and then completed 2 years post-graduate work at Smith Vocational School, studying Auto Mechanics.
Edward's first job after school was at Valley Automatic Transmission. He also worked at Hadley Auto Service and B & M Construction. In 1973 Edward was the first Mechanic that was hired by the Town of Hadley. He worked for the Town of Hadley for 15 years. In 1988 Edward ventured out on his own and opened Sam's Repair Shop on Railroad Street in Hadley. He served the community for 27 years. In 2015 he finally decided to retire and close the shop.
Edward is survived by daughter, Amy (Martula) O'Rourke, her husband Kevin O'Rourke of Easton MA and son James Martula and Dawn Schabacker of Hadley MA. He also leaves twin granddaughters, Olivia and Claire O'Rourke. Edward spent 30+ years with life partner Irene Hoynoski of Northampton MA. He and his ex-wife, Carol Stablein of Hadley, remained close friends.
At Edward's request, all services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Dakin Humane Society, PO Box 6307 Springfield MA 01101 in his name. Thank you to the Hospice of the Fisher Home.
