Edward Joseph Ganem, 81, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children. Ed "Eddie" was born on May 2, 1939, the youngest of 10 children, to the late Joseph and Latify Ganem. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly A. (Rivard) Ganem.
Eddie graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1957 and received his BA in Education from Keene State College. Upon his graduation from Keene State College in 1961, he began his career as an educator in the Manchester School District. After earning his Master's Degree in Education from Boston University in 1968, Edward became the principal of both Maynard and Lincoln Elementary Schools. Maynard and Lincoln Schools were later closed to form Beech Street School where Edward was principal for many years. In 1987, Eddie transferred to Smyth Road School where he remained until he retired in 2001 after 40 years of service to the Manchester School District. Those who knew him well know Eddie's true love and dedication was to the students of the Manchester community. Eddie also enjoyed many summers working at the Rockingham Race Track. Upon retirement, Ed and Beverly enjoyed their summers at Hampton Beach and winters in Florida.
Ed's love for sports led him to become involved in local baseball, basketball and football youth leagues. He loved to bowl, play cribbage, and golf with his colleagues and friends. However, Ed's favorite pastime was attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He was an avid New England sports fan for sure. Whenever you would visit Eddie, you would most likely find him watching sports or reading about his favorite teams. Ed especially enjoyed talking spots with his grandsons and there wasn't a time that he didn't know the answer to one of their sports questions.
Ed is survived by his wife Beverly and his three daughters, Deborah A (Ganem) Kelly and her husband Michael of South Berwick, ME, Linda M (Ganem) Lee and her husband Bruce of Manchester, NH, and Lee Ann (Ganem) Provencher and her husband James of Manchester, NH; his grandchildren Ricky and Doug Leclerc, Casey and Sam Dell Isola and Jimmy, Joey and Emma Provencher as well as seven great-grandchildren (Avery, Charlotte, Vivian, Analiese, Charlie, Cameron and Theodora).
In addition to his immediate family, Ed is also survived by his brother Wilfred Ganem of Ballston Lake, NY and sisters Mae Nasser and Mary-Ann LaJeunesse of Manchester, NH and many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his brothers John, Philip and Donald Ganem and sisters Nora Noyes, Louise Ashooh, and Matilda Ganem.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Hanover Hill Health Care Center for the exceptionally compassionate care to Edward and his family.
