Edward Furman, age 96, passed away at HCA Healthcare Southeast Hospital on February 4.2022.
Edward was born in Wallington, NJ to parents John and Victoria Furman. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Brooklyn, NY, where Edward was raised and went to school, along. In 1942, at age 16 1/2, Edward joined the Marines and was part of the 5th Marines, 1st Division, and fought in WWII in the Pacific Islands and then China. He was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1949, Edward married Brihida Furman and worked at Pfizer, raising their three children, Paul, Debra, and Christine, in Brooklyn, NY. The family moved to Pasadena, TX in 1958 and their fourth child, Mary Beth was born. Edward worked as a carpenter, building homes in the Deepwater subdivision in Pasadena before working as a machinist at Continental Can Co. When the Anheiser Busch Company was built in Houston, Edward was the first employee hired, as a machinist, and he continued his employment at Anheiser until his retirement in 1989. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Brihida, wife Elsie, daughter Mary Beth Furman, brothers Frank, Steve, Henry, and Walter, and granddaughter Nichole Furman Williams. He is survived by his son, Paul Furman and wife Susan, daughter Debra Benson and husband Ronnie, daughter Christine Poteet and husband Charlie, step-son David Sheahan and wife Debbie, step-daughter Donna Hill, grandchildren Josh Kirk and wife Karen, Sean Furman, Ronnie Benson and wife Kim, Katina Morris and husband Clay, Austin Benson and wife Leanne, Chase Furman and wife Claire, Brihida Furman and fianc? Mike Whillhite, Chelsea Pearce, Allison Fry, and Amanda Tally, many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2022 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm when the service will begin at 2:00pm at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505, burial will follow at Grand View Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Kirk, Clay Morris, Austin Benson, Ronnie Benson, Chase Furman, and Andrew Kirk with Mike Willhite and Charlie Poteet as honorary pallbearers. The family would like to thank the staff at HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast, the caregivers at Visiting Angels and Home Care Assistance, and a special thanks to Martha Ahysen for all their care and allowing Edward to continue living at home.
