Edward Earl Foote was born on August 27, 1932 in Hunt County, Texas. He passed away peacefully at Medical Center Hospital on January 11, 2022. He was the third son of Carroll Aubrey Foote and Marie Pearl Hartwell Foote. Earl went to school in Campbell and graduated from Campbell High School in 1949 where he was the captain of the basketball team. He married Doris Evelyn Smith on June 14, 1951 in Odessa. Doris and Earl celebrated 43 years of marriage before her death on March 18, 1995.
In 1951, he became a member of the United States Army Corp of Engineers which prepared him for a long and well respected surveying career alongside Ken Esmond and Wade Howell. For over six decades, Earl had a significant impact on the development across Texas and New Mexico including subdivisions, roads, power transmission lines, pipelines and municipal projects. He served multiple terms as Ector County Surveyor. He was recognized as a Legend by the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors in 2009. Earl was an avid bowler but his passion was baseball. His Little League and Pony League teams won championships, he coached coaches and his athletes went on to have noteworthy high school, college and professional careers. Earl retired from West Texas Consulting in 2000 and became a Master Gardener and taught composting to all ages. He was well known for his tomatoes and other off color jokes. Anyone who met Earl never forgot.
He is survived by two children: Ed Foote Jr of Odessa, Jeff Foote and husband Cosgrove Norstadt of Cathedral City, CA. Two grandchildren Taune Lynn Whitaker of Georgetown and Sean Ed Foote of San Antonio. Two great grandchildren Allison and Grayson. He is also survived by one brother, Carroll Foote, Jr and wife, Amy.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Doris, her parents, Morris Reid Smith and Mildred Frazier Smith, three brothers, Wayne Foote, Harold Foote and Lynn Foote, sisters-in-law, Louise Backus Foote, Emily Smith Bius, Mary Catherine Welborne Smith. Charlcia Smith Fisher, brothers-in-law, Morris Reid Smith, Jr, Jimmie Troy Smith, Eddie Bius, Thomas Fisher, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, January 17 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Perches Odessa Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the West Texas Food Bank.
