Edward Paul Bowers, 73, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Tuesday September 10, 2024 in Chapel Hill, NC. Edward was born in Louisiana on the Air Force base and grew up around the country, including several years in Glasgow, Montana. He returned to his parents hometown in Elizabethton, TN where he graduated from Elizabethton High School. He did his undergraduate education at East Tennessee State University in 1972, where he graduated cum laude, and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi. Professionally, Edward was a Certified Public Accountant, served as a Lions International Lion of the Year 1979-1980, North Carolina Jaycees and was State President's Award of Excellence while serving as Treasurer for the Jaycees. Edward specialized in forensic accounting and bankruptcy, and held several professional designations. Edward served as a bankruptcy trustee in several cases. He was a founding partner of Middleswarth, Bowers and Co., L.L.P in Gastonia, NC in 1976 with James Reno Middleswarth. His son Michael T. Bowers became a partner in 2015. Both at home and the office he was known for "loving to supervise."
Outside of his profession, Edward was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He has been with his wife, Akiko (Blythe) Bowers for nearly 20 years. Edward loved cars and he was known for his revolving collection of exotic cars. He also really enjoyed time in and around Lake Wylie. He loved Legos and anyone that visited his home knows that he had a room dedicated to his Lego collection that he affectionately labeled "Legoland of Charlotte." Recently Edward developed a love of cast iron cooking. He will be remembered for his Asian dishes, and his Cowboy Chili. Edward enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Akiko.
His parents, Mildred Ruby (Nave) Bowers and Lt. Col. Floyd Howard Bowers (Ret.), precede Edward in death. His brother, Michael R. Bowers, has also gone on before him.
Edward leaves behind his wife, Akiko, of the home and his son, Michael T. Bowers and his wife Leianne. His brother, Ernest "Ernie" Bowers and his close cousin, who grew up with him and was more like a sister to him, Ruth Csanady and husband Edward. He was the step-father to Samantha and her husband Andrew Kirchoff, Dustin Jones and his wife Harley, Cheyenne and her husband Keyshawn Williams are also grieving Edward's passing. Missing their grandfather are his six "little buddies."
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday September 14, 2024 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia, NC. A memorial service for Edward will take place after the visitation at 3:00 pm. Edwards's final resting place will be Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN.
