Edna "Lorene" Curry Olle, 95, of Austin passed away on December 31, 2020.
Lorene was born October 22, 1925, in Daisetta, Liberty County, Texas, the daughter of Tommy Curry and Mary Reeves. She met her future husband on a blind date and married Melvin H. Olle on February 10, 1945 while Melvin was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio. They settled in Austin in 1946. She was confirmed into the Christian Faith on December 1, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She has been a member of Hope Lutheran Church since 1977.
Lorene attended Business College and worked as a bookkeeper at BF Goodrich after coming to Austin, and later worked in banking for a brief time. Her most treasured work was raising a family and doing volunteer work at St. David's Hospital for many years. She was an avid gardener and loved having flowers and a year-round vegetable garden. She particularly enjoyed being at Lake Travis and spent many wonderful years entertaining family & friends at the lake house. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband in 1997 after 52 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister. She is survived by her daughters, Glenda Pittsford and partner, Brad Hunt, and Bobbie Olle and husband, Mark Thompson, of Austin, and by grandchildren, Kara Pittsford Cubbage and husband, Mike Cubbage, Daniel Pittsford and wife, Samantha Pittsford. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Avery Cubbage, Elise Cubbage, Lily Cubbage, Carter Cubbage, and Kathryn Pittsford, all of Austin. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Linora Fewell and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at Cook Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville. A celebration of life will be held later in 2021.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to all the nurses and staff of Hospice Austin who provided excellent care to Lorene and family over the past few months.
