Edmund Smyth Smillie died in his home on Saturday, August 21, 2021. He was born in the Bronx, NYC on April 2, 1935, but lived in his beloved Scotland until he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his four years of enlistment, he would become a medic and receive the Good Conduct Medal for his service. He would also serve in the reserves for another four years. He was the husband of the late Muriel Waldron Smillie. Ed was born on April 2, 1935, to the late Robert and Violet Smyth Smillie. He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Corriveau (Bruce Wayne) of Meriden, son, Robert B. Smillie of Brattleboro, VT, stepdaughter Patty Waldron (Danny) of Branford, two stepsons, Danny Waldron (Kathy) and Bobby Waldron both of East Haven and a sister, Doreen Smillie of New Haven. He also leaves four grandchildren Brendon, Sean Patrick, and Lauren Goss and MacKenzie Smillie, six step grandchildren, Patrick Romano (Alisha), Danielle Rodriguez (Pete), Daniel, Jullian, Kyla and Kiernney Waldron, as well as six great great-grandchildren and multiple sons/daughters/grandkids/nieces and nephews both by blood and his extended family. He was well loved and cared for by Christi Perrilli, who was like a granddaughter to him. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his long-time companion, Gladys Perrelli and a brother George (Alice) Smillie. Ed worked for 13 years at McCluskey Wire and then for another 24 years at Praxair, Inc. in their Shipping and Receiving Department, until finally retiring in 1997. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #0083, Wallingford Moose Lodge, as well as the Wallingford VFW.
A wake will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2021, from 4-6 pm at the East Haven Memorial Longobardi-Brennan Funeral Home, 425 Main St., East Haven, 203-467-1708. On September 1, 2021, there will also be a graveside service with full military honors at the East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven at 11 am, where his ashes will be buried his wife Muriel Smillie.
