Edmund Patrick Kruppa, 59, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7 after a courageous 2 year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Edmund was known for his creativity, sharp wit, and willingness to take risks in both his personal and professional life. He believed deeply in following one's passions and wanted to inspire others to do the same.
Edmund was born at Nightingale Hospital in El Campo, Texas, to Mary Ann and Stanley Kruppa on March 21, 1966. He graduated from El Campo High School in 1984. Throughout his youth, Edmund won numerous awards in local art shows, a testament to his natural creativity and keen eye for art, color and design. Following high school, he pursued his passion by attending graphic design school in Dallas, where he earned a degree in Visual Communications with a focus in graphic design.
In 1993, Edmund began a 15-year tenure at the Victoria Advocate, where he served in a variety of roles including graphic designer, public relations specialist, marketing coordinator, and building management. In 2008, he took on a new challenge as a project manager for Clegg Industries, where he worked until 2010. That year, Edmund made the decision to return to the El Campo area to be closer to family and pursue a personal dream ? opening his own business, Paint Perfection by Kruppa. He was both the proprietor and color consultant for the store. Although he retired from the store in 2015 following a car accident, Edmund remained a trusted resource for friends seeking his color expertise. Edmund also enjoyed being involved in the communities he lived in, serving on numerous projects and boards for local organizations such as President of the Victoria Regional Museum Association.
Edmund continued to apply his artistic eye throughout his life, often spending weekends exploring estate sales and taking antiquing trips to Warrenton and beyond. He had a talent for spotting unique, meaningful pieces and was eager to point out treasures others might have missed. A loyal Texas State Parks pass holder, Edmund also had a deep love for RV camping. His favorite tradition was his annual trip to Big Bend National Park, a trip he upheld for 30 years. Big Bend and additional West Texas sites like Fort Davis and Kickapoo Cavern held a special place in his heart. He especially enjoyed hiking, with the Lost Mine Trail being one of his favorite trails in the National Park. He found fulfillment in introducing his niece, nephew, and friends to his favorite places and trails. Edmund was able to make one final trip to Big Bend in January 2025.
Edmund is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Kruppa; his brothers, Mark Kruppa and wife Cindy, and Brian Kruppa and wife Sharon; his niece, Casie Kruppa; his nephew, Clint Kruppa; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Kruppa. Edmund deeply appreciated the many friends who showed generosity and kindness throughout his life. He was especially grateful for Cindy Garrett who offered care, support, and friendship during his battle with cancer.
Visitation will take place at Triska Funeral Home on Monday, May 12 at 5pm with rosary following at 6pm. Mass will be held at St. Philip at 10am on Tuesday, May 13. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Clint Kruppa, Michael Reck, Terry Stanphill, Glen Korenek, Robert Shafer, Joe Freeman, Will Garrett, and Johnny Reck. Honorary pallbearers include Jerry Ebensberger and Barbara Santos.
